Welcome To The New Blue Wings Rising

A new venture brings new opportunities, but the same passion as before.

For those who have been with us since the Rock Chalk Talk days, this is a big change. We started out on a fan site, wholly unconcerned about making money or driving huge page views. Instead, the focus was creating something that was worth reading and discussing, not looking to get as many ad views as possible.

While I appreciate the time that we had and the opportunities created by our stints with Sports Illustrated’s FanNation and Athlon Sports, it’s time for us to get back to our roots and give you the type of coverage that we think is important. This newsletter will not be on the cutting edge of breaking news. We aren’t set up to get huge scoops from behind the scenes. And we don’t plan to drip information bit by bit to get you to come back every single day for another morsel.

Instead, we plan to cover Kansas Athletics the way WE would want it covered. Instead of 10 articles spread over three days talking about small variations of the same information, we plan to give you one comprehensive look at the situation, published at an interval that makes sense and allows us to complete the story instead of trying to be first.

The opening week of the NCAA Tournament is a strange time to be starting a newsletter. While the timing isn’t ideal and was forced upon us, we plan to use the next few weeks to explore the format and figure out what makes the most sense. When the season ends for the Jayhawks, we will transition into an offseason schedule, with periodic updates as the stories develop and some sporadic coverage of the spring sports. There will be no newsletter format of the 100 Day Countdown to Kansas Football. But the summer will include plenty of analysis on the lead-up to football in the fall.

Most importantly, we plan to listen to you, the reader. The best part of writing a newsletter is that we can tailor our coverage to what YOU want to read, instead of what will drive the most ad revenue. So make sure to let us know what works, what we can do better, and share your ideas for things we can contribute that we aren’t already doing.

No matter how long I’ve been covering the Jayhawks professionally, I will always be a fan first. I always plan to explore the genuine questions and stories that matter to me as a fan, and I hope you look forward to the same thing. I’m excited to build this new venture with all of you. And as always, ROCK CHALK!
